Having strange days. Wondering if the summer solstice has something to do with it. The skies have been especially tempestuous and the nighttime light especially odd. Despite my usual hate for the summer, there is something special about the beginning of the end of the long days. A desperation of the sun. Blasting during the [...]

RIP 4horseshoes…
Posted in 4horseshoes studio, art, painting on June 25, 2009 | 2 Comments »
I no longer have a painting studio. Went over there this past Sunday afternoon to work for the first time in two or three weeks, and it was a mold and spider infested brick box. I lost two or three paintings to mold. Luckily I hated the paintings, so no great loss, OTHER THAN THE [...]
Medium strength

I stopped myself at medium strength fruity vodka drink #2 this evening. I could have mixed myself a third, but you and I both know what would come of that little indulgence. No need to completely ruin alcohol for myself! I don’t get to have it every day, though I usually want some every day. [...]
My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare

Tomorrow husband goes back to work after a week at home with his family. There was much packed into last week. A road trip to North Carolina and back, an out of town guest, two nights grilling meats and veggies in the back yard — what Marylander’s call a “cook-out”. A few meltdowns, but more [...]

I have a bad feeling that Beenie just won’t sleep. Who can blame her? It has been almost ninety degrees in her and Mimi’s room, but the heat doesn’t bother Mimi so much. She had a winter hat on when I walked into the inferno that was their room the other day. Pulled it off [...]
Spring 2009 in da house!

Yeah! That’s right, sunshine, showers, all of it. Bring on the huge pollen spores making my three week headache and impossible inhalation possible. I’ll take it. The gigantic tree in front of our house has little pre-burst nubs on it, ready to explode in fluffy pink crepe papier clusters any minute. Requests to go to [...]
Twenty minutes

That’s how much time I’ve got left before wake-up time. There are a number of things I could/should do with that precious time:
empty the dishwasher
empty washing machine/fill dryer/hang up clothes
look for a job
try to be a good wife, mother and hausfrau
I would rather continue doing what I’ve been doing for the past hour and a [...]

I lied earlier when I wrote that I wasn’t on the cough medicine today, like I was last year. I decided to enjoy a teaspoon of the good stuff so I can get some sleep tonight and not hack up a lung. Hello February! I’m dying to get back into the studio and inhale some [...]
Rejection #2
Posted in 4horseshoes studio, art, painting, tagged MSAC on February 14, 2009 | 2 Comments »
The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) sent me my second rejection of the year for an art grant. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the sting of money denied for art lessens with each subsequent rejection. So number two isn’t quite as bad as number one, which happened earlier this week. Bring it on. [...]
4Horseshoes redux

I would like to personally thank Gayle Mahn for letting me know that the way I had the horseshoes resting against the wall at 4horseshoes studio was BAD LUCK. All my good luck was running out the bottoms of the damned horseshoes the way I had them displayed. As per your recommendation, Gayle, I have [...]
